How-To: Switch From Endless O-Rings to Twisted O-Rings

Making the switch from endless O-rings to twisted O-rings is much easier than expected. In just a few simple steps, you will be on your way to reduced conveyor downtime.

There are two types of twisted O-rings: polyurethane and cotton. Each of these materials stretches to a different degree, meaning you may need a smaller or larger band length to get maximum use.

Follow The Two-Step Switch instructions, and start saving conveyor downtime now.

The Two-Step Switch

Step 1: Verify your endless O-ring size

Method One: Cut Length (Measuring of Prewelded/Endless Polyurethane)

  1. Cut your NEW, UNUSED O-ring
  2. Measure the length of the cut O-ring against a ruler
  3. Measure the thickness (band diameter) of the cut O-ring

Method Two: Application Measurement (Measuring of Conveyor Line Shaft)

  1. Measure from the roller, around the groove of the spool (on line shaft), and back to the roller
  2. Multiply this length by .90 (this gives you your cut length)
  3. Measure the thickness (band diameter) of the O-ring

Step 2: Calculate your twisted O-ring size

To get a twisted poly size:

  1. Cut length minus 7%
  2. Application measurement minus 17%
  3. Add 20% to a twisted cotton O-ring length

To get a twisted cotton size:

  1. Cut length multiplied by .75 (multiply by .67 if poly size is les than 10″)
  2. Application measurement multiplied by .67
  3. Subtract 20% from a twisted poly O-ring length
